Scenario #4 - Solar Powerline Incident
Background:
An ARI Rock Drill Operator is pre-drilling for a solar project in an open field in D-37. D-37's spotter steps away for a quick break. ARI’s Rock Drill Operator continues working. While tramming to a new drilling location with mast vertical, D-37’s drill mast come into contact with overhead powerlines. Sparks shoot out from the line. The Drill Operator is currently safe in the cab of his machine. The spotter returns to the scene, with a mix of concern and urgency. Surveying the surroundings, the sparks did not ignite a fire. The spotter seeks out signage, attempting to decipher the voltage (which is 51,000 kV).
